Contractor Sexual Assault Reprisals

Oct 7 2009:  In a case where a woman working for a defense contractor in Iraq was repeatedly gang-raped by her male co-workers then locked in a shipping container by the company when she complained, warning her of reprisals.

Ed.note: The crime occurred in 2005; it took three years for courts to rule in her favor.

Newly elected Senator Al Franken (D-MN) submitted an amendment to the Defense Appropriations bill that would punish contractors if they “restrict their employees from taking workplace sexual assault, battery and discrimination cases to court.”   It passed 68-30, but all 30 Nays were Republican men, who pointed out that the amendment was opposed by a host of business interests, including the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, and applies to a wide range of companies, including IBM and Boeing.

By their vote, people now asume rape by big business is OK with Republican men.  This is a vote that bit them in the rear.
